Interview with Rick Glover, a long supporter
and sponsor of local sports
You sponsor and support community sports, how do
you think they inspire and unite the
community?
“My belief is simple, I don’t particularly care what kids are
involved in but if they strive to do their best, in the long run no matter what
they do weather it is in sports education or business it will make them a better
person. I believe no matter what
your in as long as you push yourself to do the best you will become better at
whatever you do in the future.”
What makes you want to sponsor the kids and teams
from our community?
“Well I guess part of it is I’m a hometown guy, and it’s a
smaller town that needs a certain amount of support to some extent that’s why I
do it. It’s what I enjoyed as a
kid, it helps all you guys out socially too, you get around to different places
and you meet different people, it’s a big world out there and Irma is just a
small place, so it doesn’t hurt for that sort of
thing.”
What sports and events have you sponsored in the
past?
“Well primarily hockey, but I have also done Collage Basketball,
Lacrosse, Softball, Rodeo, Tractor Pulling and Mud Bogging. I don’t know I’ve
done so darn much I can’t remember.”
Do you encourage your kids to play sports for the
community?
“Yea, I played sports for a certain amount of years, and we come
into a recession in the 80’s so I kinda’ quit sports and went to work at a young
age, but the bottom line is, it’s something now as an adult that I look back to
some of the greatest times I’ve
ever had. That is the reason I
push for my kids to play, I happen to believe it’s a great thing.
I also believe there is a time and a place, when you get to the point
where you don’t enjoy it that’s the time to
quit.”
